About Mike

Mike McLean was born and raised in the Midwest, but fled the cold for the sunny skies of Central Florida, specifically Seminole County, over 22 years ago. Mike’s quite proud of his new adopted hometown. He gladly shares that it is the place where he and wife, Lisa, started their family and their first business. He uses every opportunity to talk up Seminole County, especially to businesses that are looking for new headquarters. The McLean family includes two daughters, Kaley who attends Lake Mary High, Tara and her husband, Jason, and pet dogs Henry and Abby.

Professionally, Mike owns a small independent insurance agency, where he has been in business since 1994 and employs seven folks. Like others, he’s felt the economic crunch and has had to downsize as well. Nevertheless, the Seminole Chamber of Commerce has recognized them twice as Seminole’s “Small Business of the Year.”

Along with his duties as a Seminole County Commissioner and running his business, Mike is a firm believer in giving back to the community. Some of his commitments include Northland Community Church, The Seminole Chamber of Commerce, Lake Mary Rotary Club, The Lake Mary National Day of Prayer Breakfast, The Seminole Expressway and several youth-focused efforts. Mike believes strongly that elected officials are there to serve the people, and not the other way around. In fact, it was his years of involvement that prompted several community leaders to urge him to run as a Lake Mary City Commissioner and then as a County Commissioner in 2006.
